- Ballot Question Alert
- In the 2002 Primary Election, voters in West Vincent Township approved an Open Space Referendum which called for a 49 mill real estate tax increase, to run for 10 years, to purchase "open space". But all the tax revenues that have been collected so far, plus all the additional taxes you will be paying through 2012, have already been spent. So now your Board of Supervisors wants more money!
- Take a close look at where your Township Supervisors live. Do you see any heavy development in close proximity to their homes? Now look at where you live. Notice any difference?
- Also take a look above at what has happened to the base real estate tax rate in our township in recent years. It has increased by over 250% just since 2002! That's an average of over 37%/year. Has your income gone up at that rate?
- ALL registered voters are eligible to vote on ballot questions in Primary Elections, regardless of party affiliation. But the turnout in Primary Elections is normally low. Which is why special interest groups schedule bond and tax proposal issues at that time. If they can get their supporters out in numbers, and the majority of the rest of the electorate doesn't bother to vote, their proposals will pass.
- Don't let this happen again this year! Even if you're registered as non-partison, or in a party that doesn't participate in Primary Elections, go out and vote on this issue! Tell these partisons you're not going to fall into their trap a second time! Tell your friends and neighbors what is at stake and urge them to VOTE NO on the 2006 Open Space Referendum!

- The Board of Supervisors decided to place on the ballot the question: "Do you favor the imposition of an additional tax on real estate at the rate of forty-nine one-hundredths of a mill per dollar of assessed value (0.00049) by the Township of West Vincent to be used to purchase interests in real estate/or to make additional acquisitions of real property for the purpose of securing open space benefits?"

Meeting Minutes:
Unfortunately, the Board of Supervisors has changed the procedures for acquiring copies, in electronic form, of the minutes of their meetings, as well as those of the Environmental Advisory Council (EAC) and the Planning Commission, beginning with the first meetings of 2001. At their February 26, 2001 meeting, they adopted a fee schedule that would cost at least $6/week to get copies of meeting minutes on a weekly basis, or $150/year to pick up copies of all minutes on a monthly basis. They are still making paper copies of the "unapproved" minutes available at the township building free-of-charge, however.
I have archived the 1998-2000 meeting minutes on this website, and plan to do the same with future minutes, but I don't see the need to also post current minutes if the township plans to do so on a timely basis. Therefore, I'll probably only add them here after they are 1-2 months old.
